Elastin is the protein in skin that gives it firmness, tone and elasticity. The skin gets its strength and flexibility from two structures, collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin make up 70 percent of the dermis and are important proteins in fighting the aging process. The amount of elastin in the skin usually peeks in adolescence and declines thereafter. This skin protein strengthens the skin so that damage from sun, environment, facial motion such as smiling or frowning don’t cause as many wrinkles as in a weaker skin structure. The elastin molecules are typically too large to be absorbed by the skin but Relastin found a way for the ingredient to be delivered deeper into the skin.
