Altitude Lip Balm (balmaholic)

Christina

Miss Balmaholic recently reviewed for us the Altitude Lip Balm. Besides having a little trouble finding where to buy it, everything is decent about the lip balm. (you can find it at http://www.altitudebathandbody.com/)

She was sent the Au Natural variety, which is totally unscented.

INGREDIENTS: beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, castor oil, candelilla wax, (flavour or essential oil). (taken from Altitude)

And it’s only $2!

Fresh Mineral Eyeliner not Waterproof

Lancome Color Ideal: Allergy Review

Christina

From Heather, Shimz:

Hi Everybody–

Lancome Color Ideal Foundation

Lancome Color Ideal is a product I’ve been using for the last 2 or 3 years, and it has become a staple for my make-up routine that I use pretty much everyday. Hopefully the information that follows is helpful, although if there are any points I missed or any additional questions, let me know. This product is available online through multiple sources, as well as through department stores, though I believe that Sephora does not carry this particular foundation either online or in-store.

Ingredients:

Titanium Dioxide 2.5%, Water, Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Isoeicosane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, C9-15 Fluoroalcohol Phosphate, Linalool, Sodium Chloride, Limonene, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Panthenol, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Cetyl PEG/PPG 10/1 Dimethicone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hexyl Laurate, Fragrance, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Hexyl Cinnamal, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Butylparaben, Tocopherol. May Contain: Mica Iron Oxides B12468/1.

Cosmetic Qualities:

Coverage for this foundation, at least for me, is about medium; it does an excellent job of providing an overall smooth and naturally matte finish, thought I recommend using concealer with this product for additional coverage of facial imperfections such as chicken pox scars, facial redness, or any other type of noticeable blemish. The texture is creamy and easy to spread, and it is buildable when used with a light powder to a certain extent. The quality of each bottle I’ve bought has been consistent, and the pigmentation is also excellent. This is also one of the very, very few foundations that I’ve found that actually matches extremely fair pink skin-tones (I use the I-20 color both for summer and winter), and they offer a wide range of colors. For those that wish to have a cosmetic with some sun protection, this foundation is available with SPF 15, and it is also oil-free.

Allergy note:

I have never had a reaction to this foundation in any way. While I do use a primer underneath much of the time, this foundation does an incredible job of protecting my skin, and providing coverage on the places on my face that are less than perfect, such as hives, chicken pox scarring, and any other blemishes that appear. While this foundation does have a scent, it is not overwhelming or heavy, and hasn’t caused headaches or any other type of reaction in that regard. However, I do recommend that anyone who is interested in this product take extra time to check the scent, in addition to perhaps rubbing a small amount of the inside portion of the elbow to ensure that it will not have any type of adverse affect. (I’ve been told that this is the best place to check to see if a product will cause an allergic reaction, and I’ve pretty much found this to be true in most cases) (Editor’s note: I think she meant wrist)

Overall Impressions:

Excellent Product! While this product is somewhat expensive compared to many other foundations, I would highly recommend that anyone sensitive to cosmetics try a sample of this product. The overall quality of the product is excellent, and the color stays true both with each bottle and at the point when it is applied to the skin. In the case of my sensitive skin and allergies, this product hasn’t caused any irritation at all, and I’ve been able to use it successfully for a few years now. I’ve been very impressed with this foundation, and it was the basis for which I decided to try other Lancome products that have been equally as excellent in that regard.

Thank you!

Heather

Face Brushes

Christina

Shimz Kim Porter is back with more tips on the perfect face brushes on her Makeup By Kim Porter blog. This time Kim tells her readers about the various kinds of face brushes that are available, ranging from the Foundation Brush to the Kabuki Brush. While Kim explains that she doesn’t use some of these brushes quite often, like the Tapered Face Brush, there are brushes here for everyone. Our suggestion is to make sure you have a concealer brush, foundation brush, and a blush brush. For face powder I prefer a kabuki brush because of its short handle but many people prefer a powder brush for its size and its luxury feel. Those four brushes would be the main ones for your face if you can’t afford all of the brushes that Kim suggests.

The Eyes Have It

Carrie

While going through the various beauty blogs on our Shimmer Network, I found a great page about eye brushes on Kim’s blog Makeup By Kim Porter that we’re sure will help you to make your eyes sparkle!

Kim explains that applying makeup with eye brushes can make the difference in your overall look– without proper brushes, your eyes could look blotchy or, worse, like those of a raccoon!

Kim gives her visitors several essential brushes to try, starting with your basic all-over eye shadow brush and then going into more pro-style brushes like a smudging brush and even a mascara fan brush.

It all depends on you, your makeup preferences, and how much time you want to spend on your look. Based on Kim’s blog entry, the four main brushes you shouldn’t go without are the all-over eye shadow brush, eye shadow crease brush, and the eye shadow blending brush. If you are a makeup minimalist, these three brushes should be enough to make your eyes stand out and still look put together and professional.

Top 3 Products for DIY Hair Removal (Without Spending a Fortune)

Carrie

We love Kim and she uses laser hair removal but what if you are on a budget and can’t afford laser?

One Girl’s Passion for Makeup wanted to share with us her Top 3 Hair Removal products for girls with a passion for wearing a bikini but on a budget.

Kim Kardashian Ready for Bikini Seaso

So now that we have entered spring officially, it is getting warmer and then all of us will say “Schools out, let shout”, but amidst all of this, all girls totally forgot about their bikini line during the winter months. I know that we all like wearing bathing suits and freely showing your face but a lot of factors keep us away from that. The top three are leg hair, bikini lines, and sometimes upper lip hair.

With today’s stereotypes, it’s very hard to find a body like Kim Kardashian’s in a small beach in Wyoming, but with my top three favorite for hair removal, ever body will be one step closer to fitting in.

I have three staple items in my regimen for the summers that remove my leg hair, bikini line hair, and upper lip hair. Today, I’m here to share those secrets with you. First, every girl is self conscious around the time they hit puberty about their leg hair. This makes bathing suits and shorts as well as skirts off limits for them, but we can always bring back the limit by using waxing. Now, no one wants to go a spend tons of money at salons to wax for them so I can happily introduce to you my holy grail.

#1 Nair Lasting Effects Hair Remover Ready to Use Wax Strips

It’s called Nair Lasting Effects Hair Remover Ready to Use Wax Strips for legs. I’ve been using these since I was 18 and I can proudly say that these never disobeyed me. They don’t leave me burning and irritated as opposed to salon waxing. This is heat free and the easiest things to use. They don’t leave me bumps or ingrown hairs either which I really like.

#2 My Spring It

Then, for removing upper lip hair, I like to use my little friend I call “My Spring It”. I have a My Sprint It review and it’s the beast to remove facial hair at an affordable price. Its travel sized and doesn’t need batteries or anything. I really appreciate it. It hurts a bit when you first use it, but then after a while you get used to it. If you’re used to waxing your upper lip hair, this wont hurt at all.

#3 Emjoi Optima Dual Opposed Epilato

Finally, for your bikini line, it’s very hard to recommend something because different stuff works differently for different people, but for people who are super sensitive in that area; I suggest using the Emjoi Optima Dual Opposed Epilator. It removes your hair one by one without leaving bumps or irritated red skin in the bikini area. It also doesn’t hurt. These staples are things I’ve been using for the longest time and I hope you enjoy using these and feeling confident one step at a time!

Let me know if you have questions!
