IPL and Acne

As we have mentioned before in this post, IPL Photo-Rejuvenation can help with sun-damaged skin, skin discolorations and general improvement with skin texture.  IPL technology have successfully treated brown spots (age spots, liver spots) and pigmentation, photo aging (rough texture, red and brown discolorations), face veins (telangiectasias), redness and brown mottled pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands, Rosacea and actinic keratoses (pre-cancers) and warts.  The recovery time is minimal without the burns and blisters that go along with some other treatments.

One such device that allows you to do an IPL treatment at home is the CLARO SX IPL Skin Clarifying System. It is an effective way to treat your acne with a combination of both heat and light to give you a much younger, clearer and blemish-free looking skin.

Just what is Acne?

Acne is a bacteria known as Propionibacterium Acnes, and is a normal inhabitant of the skin.  It uses sebum as a nutrient for growth.  When a pore is clogged with excess oil, it allows the bacteria to multiply and grow, attracting white blood cells to the follicle. This is the inflammation that you will see being red and bumpy on your skin.

How does CLARO SX work?

Now that we learn what acne in general is, it is not hard to understand how the CLARO SX work. If you have seen the device in action, you will see there is two kinds of light coming out of it, blue and red. Actually, it also utilizes infra-red but that is outside the range of lights your eyes can see.  The Blue Light (400-430nm) stimulates production of oxygen, which attacks the bacteria that causes acne.  Then, the Red Light (600nm) combines with heat to sooth inflammation and redness and to prevent soreness in each area where the pimple is and then that speeds the skin’s natural healing process.  And, finally, the heat from the infra-red (700nm) will raise the temperature to wich the acne is killed and increases the effectiveness of the blue light.

What about my brown spots?

Brown spots on the skin can be the result of of seborrhea Keratosis, freckles or ephelids, melasma, moles and lentigo or lintigrines or simply age spots or sun spots.  Knowing what causes the spots is important as it can help determine the type of treatment needed.  The best way to rid yourself of brown spots is to make sure you always wear a good sunscreen and to use anti-aging or wrinkle creams.  Some of these creams contain ingredients such as hydroquinone and antioxidants like retinaol, vitamin c and azeliaiac acid.  More comprehensive methods of removing these spots include chemical peels and/or pigment laser target therapy.

Let us share with you a little secret here. A little birdie told our Editors that Claro is coming out with a device next year that uses yellow light to treat the brown spots. Stay tune  as we would need your help in reviewing it (we don’t have many brown spots)
