Casting Call: For All Beauty Video Starlets

Discover and show off the “je ne sais quoi” in you.

Technology has revolutionized the way we navigate in the world of beauty products.  It allows women from all over the world  to share with us their opinions and their tips on skincare products, to tell us what work and what does not for their skin type and color, and to inspire us how to make the best use of our makeup stash. No longer do we have to listen to the fancy marketing campaigns of cosmetic companies and hate the girl in the mirror that just does not look like what is in the advertisement. We can watch other users demostrate the products before we purchase. How to use it? Does it look well on my slightly imperfect skin? Is it really as simple as ABC? Can a non-professional like me do it?  What a great way to discover the latest beauty from around the world.

However, this technology is not new. From there being one reviewer back in 2005, there are now literally thousands of reviewers online, and increasing daily too. As readers or viewers, who can we trust? Who’s video is worth our time? Who’s swatches are most complete? And how can I stay in the cutting edge of this new information overload?

On the other end of the spectrum, how do you, as a brilliant reviewer stand out from the crowd? How can you fight your way to get to be discovered?  How to expand your fan base?

Our answer is to feature new and upcoming video STARTLETS on MyShimmer. We love the fact that this support women aspiring to become makeup artists, beauty entreprenuers or just a video movie star! Let us help discover and show off the je ne sais quoi in you!

Michelle Phan — “A dame who plays game!“

Michelle Phan’s story is a fairy tale.  When she was little, she wanted to dress up as a princess for Halloween but her family has no money for that.  Without a fairy godmother to turn her rags into a nice dress and pumpkin into a carriage, she resorted to what she has, paper plates and lipsticks. Like the hungry lion that she dressed up as, the inadequecy drove her to be strong and resourceful. As she grew up, she struggle to blend in with a world of blonde princesses and failed, but never fallen behind. She found art and there she found herself. And then there was the Internet. With her webcam, her artistic skills and her charm, she became her own fairy godmother. Despite her humble beginnings and her mother’s disapproval, she have enough from partnering with YouTube to pay for Art School. Millions are watching her channel and wanted more. Currently she has makeup sponsorship for her own product line, and soon there will be a video game character modeled after her. We applaud her efforts to stand up to challenges, breaking traditions and making the best out of her talents. What about you? What is the dream you are dreaming of?

Lauren Luke — “I want to make a huge change to the beauty industry”

Lauren Luke (aka panacea81) is another sensational fairy-tale-turned-reality.  Growing up, she was not the most popular girl in school and got picked on all the time. And life was not any easier when she became a teenage mother. She has to quit school to support herself and her son. She started selling makeup on Ebay. Her porcelain skin and skillful hands soon attracted ebayers asking how to recreate her look. Then everything is history. Her Geordie accent and her dog’s snore are a daily neccessity for 300,000 subscribers. She has her own makeup line, By Lauren Luke, sold online and in Sephora.  She has her book Look Like A Star published, and she is going to be featured in a video game. She has been on BBC,  the Guardian, Time magazine, among others. Last count, the girl had 52 million views!

Now is the time.
